Oyo Police Dismiss Officers Caught Begging Money From Female Biker

Two special constables who were caught on camera in November extorting money from a Dutch power bike rider have been dismissed by the Nigerian police, News About Nigeria gathered.

In a viral video, the two special constables, identified as Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai, who were on duty along the Moniya-Iseyin road, were seen extorting money from a tourist who said she was travelling to Abuja.

However, on Thursday, at a ceremony held at the state police headquarters, the state commissioner of police, Hamzat Adebola, pronounced their dismissal.

Immediately, the officers were de-kitted and sent out of the force premises.

News About Nigeria reported earlier in December that the two officers were caught on camera begging for money from a female biker rider who was travelling through Nigeria after leaving the Netherlands.

Addressing the issue, the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that disciplinary action would be taken against the implicated officers.

In a post on the microblogging app X (formerly known as Twitter), the police reassured the public of increased supervision and urged them to report any misconduct to the Xsquad hotline.

The police also confirmed that all those who were involved have been arrested.

The video, lasting 1 minute and 26 seconds, captured the officers stopping the Dutch tourist along Moniya-Iseyin Road, and questioning her about her origin and destination.

The female biker, hailing from the Netherlands and en route to Abuja, seemed surprised by the officers’ inquiries.

Speaking in pidgin, the officers requested money and valuables from the tourist, saying, “Wetin you bring come? Wetin you won give me. O yah give me something nah.”

Despite initial confusion, the officers explicitly demanded money, to which the tourist responded with a puzzled “Why?”
