Security guards of Imam Wali Maternity Hospital in Kano State have been suspended by the government for their acts of carelessness and neglecting their duty posts, which led to a heavily pregnant woman delivering her baby in a vehicle at the front of the hospital, News About Nigeria reports.
The notice of suspension was disclosed in a statement by the Hospitals Management Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, and confirmed by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Nagoda.
Dr. Nagoda noted that the suspension is coming after a video of a lady in labour who later gave birth in the vehicle due to the negligence that occurred on the part of the security guards of the facility went viral on social media.
According to him, the husband of the pregnant woman, upon arrival at the hospital, knocked endlessly, but the security guards were nowhere to be found, and this made the husband make a video of all that was going on and post it on social media.
Dr. Nagoda therefore approved the suspension of the security guards of the Maternity Hospital and ordered the zone to organise another set of security guards, who are expected to resume with immediate effect.
He further noted that a similar case took place in the hospital on November 26th, where another pregnant woman was denied access to the hospital because the guards were absent from their duty posts, and the woman had to be rushed to the nearest hospital so she could be delivered of her baby.
He therefore warned against negligence of duty from any staff of the hospital, adding that it would come with dire consequences.
