Former Minister Of Power Declared Wanted

The former Minister of Power and Steel, Dr. Olu Agunloye, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over corruption charges, News About Nigeria reports.

The commission made this announcement on its website on Wednesday, notifying the public to report any appearance of the former minister to the commission with immediate effect.

According to the anti-graft agency, the ex-minister, who hails from Akoko North Local Government Area of Ondo State, is currently wanted over an alleged case of corruption and forgery.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission urged anyone with useful information about Agunloye to contact the Commission in its Benin, Kaduna, Ibadan, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Mardi, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Uyo, Port Harcourt, and Abuja offices or contact 08093322644 or email info@efcc.gov.ng or the nearest police station and any other security agencies.

Recall that Agunloye was interrogated in September by EFCC operatives over an alleged $6 billion Build, Mambilla hydropower Operate and Transfer contract.

Agunloye, who was the minister of power and steel between 2002 and May 2003, under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, awarded the Mambilla hydropower contract in 2003 to Sunrise Power Ltd. during the administration of Obasanjo.

The contract has, however, been the subject of a legal dispute between Nigeria and the company.

Sunrise Company, which has been in arbitration with Nigeria at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Paris, France, over an alleged breach of contract, is asking for a compensation of $2.3 billion, claiming it had spent millions of dollars on financial and legal consultants before the contract was jettisoned.

In 2016, Agunloye joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and became the party’s candidate in the state governorship election.
