The minister of defence, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru has reiterated his commitment to ending insecurity in the country, News About Nigeria reports.

He made this known while defending the ministry’s budget at a joint sitting of the Senate and House of Representatives committees on defence on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the ministry will use its 2023 supplementary budget and part of its 2024 budget to end insurgency and terrorism simultaneously.

He noted that the ministry hoped to achieve this by carrying out simultaneous operations in all their theatres, adding that the additional budget is to fasten the process and make it difficult for terrorists to migrate to other locations and keep up with their activities.

Badaru further commended the joint committee for their continuous efforts in seeing that the issue of insecurity in the country is resolved, expressing his faith in the federal government ending the raging war in the country.

He, however, stated that the strategies being employed by the ministry to put an end to insecurity in the country will not be disclosed to the general public.

Reacting to the budget submitted by the Minister of Defence, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, said the joint committee would work assiduously to scrutinise the ministry’s 2024 proposal.

Lawan maintained that the importance of security cannot be overemphasised, as every other sector, including education and economy, depends on its success in functioning properly

He therefore advocated that resources be made available to the defence ministry to enable them to handle the issue of insecurity effectively.
