House Of Representatives Extend Resumption Date To April 30, Give Reasons

The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation Technology has disclosed plans to commence investigations into the recent air accidents in the country, News About Nigeria reports.

At the inaugural meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the chairman of the committee, Abiodun Akinlade, noted that the committee was committed to putting the necessary measures in place to ensure that air crashes in the country are brought to the barest minimum and if possible, eliminated.

Speaking further, the chairman maintained that the committee would partner with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and the regulatory authorities to organise a high-tech town hall meeting with the sole aim of looking into the causes of the air crashes that have happened in the country recently.

“We will, with the support of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), the regulatory authorities, organise a high-tech town hall meeting to look into the causes of the air crashes.

“We will also look at other safety abnormalities at our airports. Our airspace must be safe for all,” he said.

Akinlade also promised to probe the controversy that followed the launch of the Nigeria Air project.

Recall that the government under the Buhari-led administration unveiled Nigeria Air as a national carrier, which, according to the former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, would be private-sector-driven.

However, in August, Festus Keyamo, the new minister of aviation, announced that the Nigeria Air project had been suspended, attributing its suspension to complaints from government agencies.

Akinlade, however, stated that the committee will partner with the aviation and aerospace industries to dig deeper into the newly launched Nigeria Air and inform Nigerians accordingly.

He further assured Nigerians that the safety abnormalities of the airports in the country would be looked into.

He promised to make the airspace safe for all.
