The Rivers State Police Command has called on Gift Okpara, also known as 2Baba, the prime suspect in the brutal murder of Divisional Police Officer SP Bako Angbashin, to surrender himself for investigation, News About Nigeria reports.
The police emphasised the importance of justice and urged Okpara to come forward and prove his innocence in the killing that took place in the Odumuedie community, Ahoada East.
The call came in response to a viral voice note by 2Baba, denying any involvement in the crime, which was aired on a popular radio station, 92.3 Nigeria Info, Port Harcourt, on Monday morning.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, acknowledged the denial and stressed the principle of justice, stating the need for a fair hearing for all parties involved.
The police encouraged him to come forward and submit himself to the authorities, providing an opportunity to present evidence supporting his claims of innocence.
”The police understand the importance of listening to the other party, and it is crucial to note that everyone is considered innocent until proven otherwise.
“As such, the Rivers State Police Command urges Gift David Okpara, aka 2Baba, to come forward and submit himself to the authorities, providing the opportunity to present evidence that could support his claims of innocence.
“The police are committed to upholding the principles of due process and are open to receiving any information that can aid in the ongoing investigation.
“It is imperative for Gift David Okpara to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure a thorough and transparent resolution to this serious matter,” the statement reads.
