Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday, expressed their confidence in the Supreme Court to deliver justice.
According to them, they believe the Supreme Court will serve justice in the recent court judgments that overturned the elections of some of the governors.
The governors restated their belief in the Apex court on Thursday in a meeting held under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum in Abuja.
According to a communique released by the forum, which was signed by its Chairman, Bala Mohammed Bauchi, the governors said, “We believe that the Supreme Court will do justice in the cases where we recorded temporary setbacks. There is Zamfara and Plateau. As a forum, we once again re-state our overall confidence in the judiciary to do justice.”
News About Nigeria recalls that the Court of Appeal, in its judgement, declared the governorship election held in Zamfara State on March 18 inconclusive.
In a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices, the court nullified the return of Governor Dauda Lawal of PDP as the winner of the election.
Also, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, last Sunday, nullified the election of the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on the grounds that he was not validly nominated and sponsored by PDP to participate in the March 18 poll.
The governors also stated that they are in support of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s decision to investigate allegations of the existence of pre-filled result sheets in Kogi state during the November 11 off-cycle governorship election.
