A man identified as Ganiyu Aikore has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly sleeping with his teenage daughter, impregnating her and attempting to abort the pregnancy, News About Nigeria reports.
Ganiyu was said to have impregnated his 17-year-old daughter in the Mokola Isale Tapa area of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
According to report, Ganiyu had upon learning about the pregnancy, rushed down to a pharmaceutical store to get what was suspected to be abortion pills.
It was noted that the Ogun-based father had the intention of terminating the pregnancy to enable him continue with his illicit sexual relations with his teenage daughter.
However, when his daughter discovered what he was about to do, she approached the chairman of the community, asking for help, accompanied by other concerned residents.
Furious, the chairman was said to have taken the girl to the Adatan Police Division to file complaints against her father.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, while confirming the incident, noted that Ganiyu was suspected to have been having an illicit sexual relation with his daughter for a long time, adding that the pregnancy was precisely 23 weeks.
According to officer Omolola, investigations were currently ongoing, and she would ensure justice was given to Ganiyu’s daughter.
She further condemned the actions of Ganiyu, stating that he was supposed to be protecting his daughter from such violations from outsiders, and not be the one perpetrating the evil against her.
