The command also reported a substantial increase in revenue, generating N30 million through baggage assessment and auction sales of seized petroleum products.

Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Amadu Shuaibu, shared these figures during a briefing held at the Idiroko area of the state.

The seized items included 901 parcels of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana or Indian hemp), 500 pieces of foreign-used pneumatic tyres (Tokunbo tyres), 23 units of vehicles used for conveying prohibited goods, five foreign-used vehicles (Tokunbo), and 4,684 bags of foreign parboiled rice in 50kg each, equivalent to eight trailer loads.

He attributed this accomplishment to the commitment to trade facilitation, robust stakeholder engagement, and an unwavering resolve in the fight against smuggling.

The command’s determination in anti-smuggling efforts led to the successful seizure of various items, contributing to a Duty Paid Value of N398,470,687.00.

The Acting Controller expressed gratitude for the supportive working atmosphere created by the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and his management team.

He acknowledged the recent addition of eight Toyota Land Cruiser trucks provided by the CGC, enhancing anti-smuggling operations.

Shuaibu emphasised the strategic deployment of officers and men, intelligence operations, and collaboration with sister agencies as critical factors in their achievements.

The persistent seizure of Cannabis Sativa, foreign-used pneumatic tyres, and other dangerous goods showcased the command’s commitment to preventing the circulation of harmful substances among the youth, contributing to national security.

The achievements of the Ogun 1 Area Command underscore the vital role of the Nigeria Customs Service in promoting economic development and safeguarding national security.
