The Federal Government has revealed that the involvement and participation of Nigerian youths is vital if the technological challenges will be resolved in the country, News About Nigeria reports.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said this while delivering his lecture at the 33rd convocation lecture of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure.

He noted that not only Nigeria but the world at large was in dire need of people, especially youths with technological knowledge to resolve global challenges.

He further noted that the agricultural sector, manufacturing and servicing sectors must be identified and enhanced for the country to become really developed.

According to him, these sectors have been a determining factor in measuring the Gross Domestic Product of two countries since 1980.

Dr Bosun Tijani, in his lecture, tagged “Knowledge and research as a foundation for a prosperous economy” and maintained that for development to happen speedily in the country, the universities of technology must rise more to the challenges of technological advancement in the country.

He also urged the universities of technology to rise up to the challenge of becoming job creators and employers of labour while urging the students to embrace self-investment.

The Minister also noted that the knowledge gotten from school was not being applied in furtherance of development in the country.

He stated that although the number of water bodies in the country continues to increase, the fishing sector continues to decline as the country still depends on the importation of fish.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, stated that the convocation was to portray the school as a great citadel of knowledge.
