The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to skit makers and social workers, cautioning them against portraying the commission as a bullying agency, News About Nigeria reports.
Dele Oyewale, the head of media and publicity at EFCC, on Wednesday, expressed concern over a trending video titled ‘EFCC and Army Wahala’ circulating on the internet, which depicts the agency in an unfavourable light.
Oyewale emphasised the need for skit makers to refrain from using the operational identities of the EFCC illegally, stating that such actions cast shadows on the commission’s image.
He pointed out that the video in question, depicting supposed EFCC operatives engaging in unprofessional behaviour, is not only embarrassing but a deliberate attempt to tarnish the agency’s reputation.
The EFCC’s media and publicity head clarified that the commission’s officers are well-trained professionals who conduct their operations with decency, civility, and respect for the public, including suspects of economic and financial crimes. Oyewale issued a strong warning to skit makers, urging them to desist from unauthorised use of the EFCC’s identities in their content.
He emphasised that the EFCC will not hesitate to take legal action against anyone caught misrepresenting the commission’s operational identities for any purpose.
“Operatives of the EFCC are not bullies. They are trained as refined modern law enforcement officers rich in decency, civility and respect for members of the public, including suspects of economic and financial crimes,” he said.
“Skit makers are warned again to desist from unauthorized use of the identities of the EFCC to ply their trade. The Commission will not hesitate to bring to book anyone caught displaying its operational identities for any engagement.”
