A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has said that the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, has brought Organized Labour into serious disrepute.
Reno Omokri said this in a post on his X account in response to the ongoing Nationwide Labour strike.
He alleged that the NLC had lost all its Integrity under Ajaero.
According to Reno, Ajaero is a supporter of the Labour Party and, as such, wants to make the NLC a political party when it is meant to be apolitical.
He further alleged that Ajaero has turned the NLC into a centre for tribalism without any clear vision for the workers he claims he is leading.
Speaking on the ongoing Organized Labour strike and the alleged assault on the NLC President in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Reno slammed Ajaero for punishing the whole Nation because he was beaten.
He also stated that the NLC president was brutalized because he went to interfere with the off-cycle governorship election in Imo state.
He said, “This is very sad. You went to a state to interfere in gubernatorial elections. Thugs beat you. And then, instead of focusing on the state where this occurred, you decide to punish the whole country. Meanwhile, in Imo state, where the incident happened, the strike is not in force.”
News About Nigeria recalls that Ajaero was attacked on the 1st of November, 2023, when he went to protest the non-payment of salaries and pensions of workers in Imo state along with other NLC members.
Following his attack, the organized Labour on Monday declared a nationwide strike which commenced on Tuesday and also demanded that the government deliver on its promises to workers.
