British PM Sunak Sacks Interior Minister Amid Cabinet Reshuffle

The controversial interior minister, Suella Braverman, was on Monday sacked by Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister, amid the reshuffling of his cabinet in preparation for a general election which will be held in 2024.

After weeks of divisive pro-Palestinian marches and counter-protests in Britain, opponents accused Sunak of inflaming tensions and also increased pressure on the Prime Minister to fire the vocal right-winger Braverman.

Who will take over for Braverman, who was appointed to the position shortly after Sunak became prime minister, is not yet known.

News About Nigeria gathered that after she was sacked, she noted that it had been her biggest privilege to work as a home secretary while pointing out that she will have more to say as time goes on.

The dismissal occurs as the ruling Conservatives have announced that Sunak is leading his first significant cabinet reorganisation since taking office on October 25, 2022.

Throughout Sunak’s tenure in office, the party has consistently lagged behind the major Labour opposition by double digits, and the upcoming election is predicted to be lost by Sunak.

Throughout her term, Braverman had fostered controversy by adopting a tough position on immigration in particular and frequently delving into so-called “culture wars” themes that are said to have divided voters.

The right-wing politician said that returning asylum seekers to Rwanda was her “obsession” and “dream” Immediately after taking office, she branded her detractors as liberal “tofu-eating wokerati.”

However, after she penned an incendiary newspaper piece accusing police of favouring left-wing causes last week—ostensibly without Sunak’s consent—her situation becomes more and more unsustainable.

It was held responsible for inflaming emotions leading up to a weekend of demonstrations against Israel’s assault in Gaza, which fell on Armistice Day, and it sparked more demands that she should be fired.
