The family of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has expressed sadness and complained that the IPOB leader is not allowed to receive visitors by the Department of State Security (DSS).
Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Kanu’s younger brother, initiated the complaint to reporters.
Prince Kanu, who condemned the alleged DSS operations, said that the security outfit purposely chose to ban guests from visiting Nnamdi Kanu, alleging that the goal was to block the potential visitors from discovering the true status of his health.
The DSS, according to Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, is wrong to continue denying the IPOB leader access to his family and counsel twice a week, as directed by the Abuja High Court.
News About Nigeria gathered that none of the individuals who showed up on Thursday to see Nnamdi Kanu were allowed to do so by the DSS, according to Prince Emmanuel Kanu.
The Kanu family said that they and other justice-seekers found the DSS’s actions to be dubious.
According to Nnamdi Kanu’s family, the DSS is preventing visitors from seeing their brother, which is yet another flagrant violation of a current Court order and their attempt to conceal Nnamdi Kanu’s deteriorating health condition.
The family lamented that the DSS has turned into a private security firm which is being managed by the authority in the form of a family business.
Prince Emmanuel Kanu remarked, “I still don’t know why my brother is being held against court orders.”
Nonetheless, the deadline for hearing applications regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s continued incarceration has been set by the Supreme Court for December 15.
A five-member Supreme Court bench led by Kudirat Kekere-Ekun set the date for judgment after the federal government and Kanu’s attorneys adopted their final arguments.
The head of IPOB, who was extradited from Kenya on June 19, 2021, is now being held by the Department of State Services (DSS).
