Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara affirmed on Thursday that his predecessor and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike remained his principal even though both recently had a political misunderstanding.
The governor announced this in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the rededication service of the Rivers State Judiciary’s 2023/2024 Legal Year, which Wike also attended.
The ceremony took place at Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church on Hospital Road in the state capital.
He portrayed the state’s recent political turmoil as a thing of the past, asking for calm in the oil-rich state once more. Rivers State, according to Fubara, will develop if the actors and their supporters remain peaceful.
“My oga is still my oga. Whatever transpired is no longer relevant. I have not sent anyone to slander anyone,” the governor stated.
He stated that, while it has been a difficult moment for the state, the current period of political misunderstanding would pass and the promises made by his government to the people will be fulfilled.
News About Nigeria noted that the governor also advised individuals professing their support for him not to use harsh language against perceived opponents, stating he did not empower them to defame anybody.
According to him, the devil will constantly attack when attempting to achieve progress, but the most important thing is to “identify the devil and push it out.”
It was the first time that the two politicians who were important actors in the recent political tussle in the State would meet in public.
Wike, the FCT Minister, arrived at the church service towards the conclusion and exchanged handshakes with Governor Fubara before sitting in the same row as him for the duration of the ceremony.
Governor Fubara joked at the opening of his address about suspending guest recognition to avoid committing another impeachable offence.
