FG To Spend 21bn On Third Mainland Bridge Repairs

The Federal government has revealed plans to spend N21 billion on repairing Third Mainland Bridge, News About Nigeria reports.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, during the flag off of the bridge alongside the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

Umahi noted that the repair of the bridge costs much as a result of the expansion the work required which included a complete replacement of the asphalt of the deck to the standard two inches to make motoring smoother and safer on the bridge.

He further noted that a special feature was going to be added to the railings of the bridge to avoid further attempts if suicide on the bridge.

Umahi stated that the four ramps of the bridge will be completed before the 13th of December, adding that work will be suspended on the bridge to enable the workers enjoy the Christmas break and New Year celebrations, while the maintenance of the carriage ways will commence on the January 15.

Dr Hamzat however, urged Lagos residents to be patient with what will just be minimal discomfort the repairs of the bridge might cause, assuring them that it was necessary for overall good of the public.

Recall that the Federal Government had revealed plans to commence work on the Third Mainland Bridge after residents of the state had lamented the deplorable state of the bridge, attributing it to the leading destination for suicidal persons.

The government has however, listened and heeded their please as the bridge is about to undergo a comprehensive repair
