The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that his administration will no longer rush into agreements but will follow due process before doing so, News About Nigeria reports.
According to him, he will ensure they painstakingly follow through with all bilateral agreements before he would enter into it with anyone or group as an administration.
The former Rivers state governor, who said this when he was visited by the Irish Ambassador to Nigeria, Peter Ryan, disclosed that due to the rush they have made in the past, so many bilateral agreements have ended at the discussion stage.
He, therefore, noted that gone are the days when bilateral agreements were not followed to a logical conclusion.
In his own words, “Relationships should be beneficial. I won’t be in a hurry to enter into arrangements that end immediately after discussions.”
Wike urged the Irish ambassador to take advantage of the land in the nation’s capital territory to strengthen the partnership between both countries.
“Nigeria has strong ties with the Republic of Ireland and so we would like to leverage on that, especially in the area of Agriculture, which Ireland is known for,” he stated.
Also, speaking during his visit, the Irish Ambassador stated that his country was willing to partner with the FCT Administration, especially in the areas of education, agriculture and information and communication technology, ICT.
He further disclosed that many Nigerians are currently residents in the Republic of Ireland and most of them are making remarkable contributions to the economy of the nation, especially in the area of Sports and ICT.
