Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey has been crowned this year’s Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine, News About Nigeria reports.
Known for his iconic portrayal of Doctor Derek ‘McDreamy’ Shepherd in the hit TV show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, the 57-year-old actor was announced as the title holder on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Tuesday night.
Upon hearing the news, Dempsey expressed his shock, saying, “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
In addition to his beloved role in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, Dempsey has appeared in other Hollywood classics such as ‘Enchanted’ and ‘Made of Honour’.
He’s been married to professional makeup artist and beauty mogul Jillian Fink for 24 years, and the couple shares three children: 21-year-old Talula and 16-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby.
In his interview with People, Dempsey, a philanthropist, expressed gratitude for the title, acknowledging that it provides him with a platform to make a positive impact.
He is the founder of the Dempsey Center, an organisation dedicated to supporting cancer patients in honour of his mother.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly, my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive,” he shared.
Dempsey has previously been named the second Sexiest Man Alive both in 2005 and 2006.
Now, after finally topping the list this year, he joins the ranks of other heartthrobs who’ve held the title, including Marvel star Chris Evans, the immediate past holder, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, and several others.
