The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has said that the agency’s fight against anti-corruption will now focus on economic growth, News About Nigeria reports.
According to him, the commission’s anti-corruption fights would now be premised on initiatives and modalities capable of stimulating economic growth and development in the overall interests of Nigerians.
This was said in a post shared on the anti-graft agency X account on Wednesday.
Olukeyede said, “There is need to redirect our focus towards what we were set up to do in Nigeria, which is to drive economic development. We will tilt our focus towards that area. We will work to drive economic development, and create wealth and employment.”
He further noted that the era of the commission closing down businesses to carry out investigation are over as they have gotten alternatives on how to manage the situation without shutting down the business.
According to him, EFCC will look into the mix-fund rules that separate proceeds of crimes from legitimate money so as to allow businesses to grow even while investigations are ongoing.
The EFCC boss, who also stated that the commission would ensure that they rid the nation of corruption so as to help rebuild Nigeria’s image in the outside world, charged officers of the Commission to abide by its core values as it carries out its responsibility.
He further stated that all officers of the anti-graft agency must be transparent and accountable, noting that it is the major reason why he recently directed them to declare their assets.
Speaking further on the declaration of assets, the EFCC Chairman explained that since he has done his own, other officers must follow suit and declare their own assets.
