Nigerian rapper Reminisce has dismissed the concept of gentle parenting, stating that parenting is a challenging task.

News About Nigeria gathered that in a recent interview, Reminisce said parents need to be cautious, especially if they have the means to provide their children with almost anything they desire.

“There’s nothing like gentle parenting; parenting is hard. You have just two options. Especially if you are in a position where you can afford to give your children almost anything they want, you have to be extremely careful.”

He expressed his emotional attachment to his daughters and noted the trust they place in him as a father.

Describing himself as a ‘cool dad’, Reminisce emphasises the need to teach his children about life beyond the comforts of their home.

As an example, he revealed a personal experience from a year when there was no birthday cake for his daughters.

Instead, he took them to an orphanage, intending to help them understand that life extends far beyond their immediate surroundings.

Reminisce said he aimed to instil in his children the understanding that some people have less and still manage to succeed in life.

“For example, three of them, last year, there was no birthday cake. I took them to an orphanage around. I just want them to understand that there is life beyond your school and this house and where you live, this estate as well.

“There are people who don’t have and they end up doing well in life. They wake up every morning and they are okay. I just let you know that yeah, you are okay but there are people who don’t have.

He wants them to appreciate that a ‘no’ from him doesn’t mean the end of the world.

In his view, the process of parenting is inherently challenging and cannot be characterised as ‘gentle parenting’.

“Sometimes you must understand that when I say no, the world is not going to end,” he said.
