Kogi Killings: Protest Erupts In Police Headquarters

In a show of protest against the deaths of three police officers and some party members in Anyigba, Kogi State, Social Democratic Party (SDP) members stormed the Police headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the party’s nominee for governor in the election on November 11th, spearheaded the demonstration.

The candidate, accompanied by notable party members and supporters, said that CP Bethrand Onuoha, the state commissioner of police, had compromised the protection of people and property in the state and requested that he be removed from office and prosecuted.

The candidate, escorted by notable party members and backers, called for the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha, to be removed and prosecuted for allegedly compromising the state’s efforts to protect people and property.

In the early morning of Tuesday, a group of thugs purporting to be part of a state-sponsored task force broke into the home of SDP Campaign Director General Sheikh Ibrahim.

This resulted in the death of Three policemen, while six supporters of the SDP were abducted.

News About Nigeria reports that the SDP governorship candidate, Ajaka, the Campaign Director General, Col. Suleiman Babanawa (retd), and a former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, were meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In the build-up to the November 11 election in Kogi State, there have been reports of political violence and unrest.

The Joint Security Operation in the State earlier today killed three alleged political thugs in Anyigba, Eastern Senatorial District.

SP William Ovye Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement he issued to the press.

According to Aya, the security personnel were able to recover two AK47 rifles from the alleged political thugs.
