The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to constructing roads that will facilitate trade and commercial activities within the state, News About Nigeria reports.
Governor Otti made this declaration during the inauguration of the MCC/Old Express Road in Aba on Sunday.
The governor emphasised the significance of quality road construction, not only for improving vehicular movement but also for creating an environment where businesses can thrive.
He revealed that the government had already awarded contracts for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of key roads essential for economic development.
“We cannot drive the kind of economic rejuvenation that we seek if our most important roads are in bad shape,” Otti stated.
The newly reconstructed road serves as evidence that the state government is embarking on a comprehensive transformation of Aba and the state as a whole.
Governor Otti indicated that the inauguration of the road signifies that ‘Aba is open for businesses’ and encouraged potential investors to explore the numerous opportunities available within the state.
The governor’s focus is on creating an environment conducive to realizing individuals’ dreams and supporting the growth of enterprises, while also fostering safe and profitable investments.
Governor Otti reiterated the government’s commitment to developing programs and policies that facilitate the creation of optimal investment paths and partnerships to better serve the people.
He also disclosed that measures have been taken to address the perennial flooding issue in Aba, while contracts for the reconstruction of economically vital roads in local government areas have been awarded.
The President of Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, Chief Jerry Kalu, praised the government’s efforts in rebuilding Abia.
He emphasised that the rebuilding agenda of the current administration will significantly boost socio-economic growth in the state.
The Director of China Civil Engineering Construction Company, Eric Shen, expressed gratitude to the state government and the local community for their support, which contributed to the successful completion of the road project.
He assured that the road was constructed to the highest engineering standards to withstand the test of time and would play a vital role in enhancing socio-economic development and improving residents’ living standards.
