An update on Joe Ajaero’s health, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been given by Trade Union Congress (TUC) General Secretary Nuhu Toro, following his Wednesday detention in Imo State.

Ajaero was reportedly detained on Wednesday during a demonstration by Imo State workers over what they claimed to be a “serial and habitual abuse and violation” of their rights by the state government in Owerri, the state capital, according to Channels Television.

News About Nigeria gathered that Ajeoro was allegedly abused following his detention, despite the police claim that he was placed into custody for his safety.

Following his arrest in Imo State on Wednesday, Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was given an update on his condition by Nuhu Toro, the general secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Ajaero was detained on Wednesday during a demonstration by Imo State workers against what they claimed to be a “serial and habitual abuse and violation” of their rights by the state administration in Owerri, the state’s capital.

After being released from custody, Ajaero was subsequently shown being taken to an Owerri hospital in a viral video with obvious facial injuries.

During an update on Thursday during a live interview on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics, Toro stated that “Ajaero is now responding well to treatment.”

According to Toro, the NLC leader and the other leaders who are with him are getting the proper care and are reacting well to treatment.

“They are still receiving treatment, and I’m glad to let you know that they’re improving. There were also attacks on the chairperson of RTEAN, an affiliate of the TUC.

“The thugs carted away his money and took away his phones. They are in the hospital getting care as they heal”, he stated.

He clarified that a memorandum signed on May 7 by the NLC, TUC, and the Imo State administration was the reason for the attack.

“We travelled to Imo because a memorandum we signed was not honoured by the state administration led by Senator Hope Uzozinma.

“The Governor declined to respect the gentleman’s agreement to form a committee,” he stated.
