A bricklayer, Gabriel Awaye, was on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a Sexual Offences and Domestic Court sitting in Ikeja for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

The defendant had been found guilty of the two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault, having violated the underage girl in his room, News About Nigeria reports.

The Judge, Justice Soladoye, stated that the defendant, by his audacious sexual recklessness, was not fit to be in the community of civilized people and, therefore, deserved to be locked away for life.

According to the survivor, she was at her grandmother’s house when her friend, Profit, told her that her sister needed her.

She recounted her ordeal of how on getting there, she couldn’t find her sister but met the defendant who forced himself on her and defiled her.

The court maintained that the evidence the defendant claimed to have were lies as he attempted to detach himself from his offence, said the mother of the minor tried severally to have a sexual relationship with him.

The court, however, found the prosecution witnesses truthful in their testimonies and their evidence concrete.

Gabriel Awaye was found guilty and, therefore, sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the two counts and his name was registered in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.

The prosecutor submitted that the defendant committed the offences on June 2, 2021, on Agbawaye Street, Command, Agbado Oke-Odo, Lagos, contrary to Sections 127 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
