Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Joy Chigozie and Musa Salihu, for their alleged connection with a gang rape on Airport Road in the Kirikiri area of the state.
News About Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday around 6 p.m. but was reported to the Kirikiri Police on Monday.
The victim, a 28-year-old woman, was lured by one of the suspects of the gang rape (who is still on the run) to his alleged aunt’s shop. There, she was made to drink an alcoholic substance until she became intoxicated.
It was further gathered that the man, along with his aunt, took the intoxicated lady, whom they blindfolded, to a room where he and five other men forcefully engaged in sexual intercourse with her one after the other, threatening to kill her if she didn’t comply with them.
Confirming the incident and the arrest of the two suspects, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that they arrested a 56-year-old Chigozie and one of the rapists who are currently being interrogated.
Hundeyin said, “On Monday, around 10:30 p.m., a 28-year-old woman named Rosemary reported to the Airport Road Kirikiri Station that on October 29, 2023, around 4 p.m., she met a man (now at large) who took her to a kiosk to buy Schnapp drink. The man introduced a 56-year-old woman to her as his sister.
“She stated that the woman and her brother, while smiling, made her get drunk with Indian hemp. The man further arranged with the woman and took her to a place where she encountered five other men. They threatened to kill her and blindfolded her with a cloth. She further narrated that they engaged in sexual intercourse with her one after the other.”
The Police Public Relations Officer further stated that after the lady’s report, police detectives were deployed to the location of the kiosk. The woman was arrested, and her kiosk was searched, but nothing incriminating was found.
He also revealed that one of the principal suspects, Musa Salihu, a 26-year-old man, was also arrested at the scene of the crime.
Hundeyin also disclosed that the lady will be taken to Mirabel Hospital in Ikeja for tests, and the case will be transferred to the Gender Section in Ikeja for discreet investigation.
