Aiyedatiwa’s Apology To Akeredolu Won’t Stop Impeachment – Ondo Speaker

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, has stated that the apology tendered by the state’s Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, will not halt the Assembly’s impeachment process against him, News About Nigeria reports.

According to Oladiji, the impeachment process must continue because the apology pertains to a personal issue between Aiyedatiwa and the Governor.

“Aiyedatiwa’s apology concerns a personal matter between him and Governor Akeredolu. The Assembly will proceed with the impeachment process against the deputy governor,” he emphasized.

The Speaker also refuted the rumour that the impeachment process had divided the Assembly, noting that steps had already been taken to unite the lawmakers.

News About Nigeria recalls that the Ondo Assembly has been taking steps to impeach the deputy governor over alleged gross misconduct.

The move for his impeachment is also linked to a strain in the relationship between the governor and his Deputy.

Aiyedatiwa had publicly apologized last week to the governor, attributing the crisis between them to the actions of political contenders in the state. He stated that he remains loyal to Akeredolu and his administration.

The deputy governor also emphasized that there has never been any issue between himself and Akeredolu, except that political actors have exploited the Governor’s absence to create a non-existent crisis for their own selfish interests.

In a response similar to that of the State’s House of Assembly, Akeredolu addressed his Deputy’s apology, noting that it would not deter him from facing the impeachment process.
