The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the deaths of two people who suffocated while clearing a diesel reservoir on Saturday night in Kano, News About Nigeria reports.

Their deaths were disclosed in a statement made available by the Public Relations Officer of the state fire service, Saminu Abdullahi.

According to him, the incident occurred along Katsina road by the Baban Gwari roundabout in Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

Abdullahi gave the names of the deceased as Philip Osando, 40, and Philip Emmanuel, 35.

He further revealed that the state fire service received the call about the trapped victims late Saturday night and hurried to intervene, but the victims were already dead before their arrival.

“We received an emergency call from Police Inspector Abubakar Surajo at about 08:20 p.m. on Saturday, and we sent our rescue team to the scene at about 08:27 p.m.,” he explained.

Abdullahi further stated that the deceased had informed their place of work to be prepared to receive diesel before they entered the diesel reservoir to clear the tank but couldn’t come out and eventually met their deaths.

According to him, upon finding the already lifeless bodies of the victims in the reservoir, fire service personnel retrieved their bodies and handed them over to the police.

He also noted that they were taken to the hospital where doctors confirmed them dead.

The PRO further urged residents and the general public to prioritize their safety and ensure that they cautiously carry out any task they are involved in, noting that the State Fire Service always emphasized the importance of placing safety as a top priority.

He also stressed that double-checking and adhering to proper safety protocols can significantly reduce the risk of such tragic incidents.

“Safety is for everyone; think before you do anything to avoid any unforeseen circumstances,” he warned.
