Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has rejected the apology tendered by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, over the ongoing crisis between them, News About Nigeria reports.
In a statement released through his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, the Governor also refuted certain claims made by his deputy in his apology.
He insisted that his deputy must answer questions before the state House of Assembly.
In his apology to Governor Akeredolu, the deputy had blamed the ongoing crisis on desperate politicians in the state. He emphasized his loyalty to the Governor and claimed he had never sponsored any protests against Akeredolu.
Aiyedatiwa stated this while speaking to reporters on Thursday, asserting that there had never been any personal issues between himself and Akeredolu. He explained that political actors had exploited the Governor’s absence to fabricate a crisis for their own interests.
However, Odebowale, speaking on behalf of the Governor, disagreed with Aiyedatiwa.
He refuted the deputy’s denial of sponsoring any protest groups against the Governor, labelling it as false. Odebowale further clarified that the Governor had not intervened in Aiyedatiwa’s impeachment case with the State House of Assembly. He insisted that the deputy must address the panel.
Odebowale stated, “Governor Akeredolu does not interfere in the affairs of the Ondo State House of Assembly, as subtly suggested during Aiyedatiwa’s press conference. There has never been a time when the Governor ‘persuaded’ the ‘distinguished members of the Ondo State House of Assembly to accept the political solution offered by the APC in response to an impeachment move against Deputy Governor Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa.”
He went on to emphasize that the people of Ondo State are discerning and cannot be deceived by such an apology at this time. He noted that keen observers of recent events in the state would recognize the malicious intentions, insensitive posturing, and diabolical projections that have characterized the government of the Sunshine State over the last six months.
