President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has spoken after the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld his election as the president of Nigeria.
News About Nigeria had earlier reported that the Supreme Court struck out petitions brought against President Bola Tinubu by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and that of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
Mr. Tinubu, in a statement on Thursday, said he accepts the verdict of the Supreme Court, suggesting that the verdict of the Supreme Court was an indication that he clearly won the election.
“There is no doubt, with the profound judgment of today, that our electoral jurisprudence and constitutional democracy are further consolidated and embedded more indelibly in our national identity because of the diligence and undaunted professionalism of the Honourable Justices who presided over the matter,” statement by Tinubu read.
Tinubu argued that while the ruling satisfied the legal standards set down by the constitution, it also put an end to the contentious debate over who actually won the 2023 presidential election.
The President stated that the judiciary showed its unwavering commitment to sustaining the rule of law for the advancement and defence of mankind in spite of the barrage of pressure and attempts at intimidation by certain political players.
President Tinubu assured that he would meet the expectations of Nigerians.
Recall that Festus Keyamo had earlier charged Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to congratulate Tinubu on his victory at the Supreme Court.
Also, former Bayelsa senator and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ben Bruce, had asked Nigerians to accept the Supreme Court verdict.
