The Supreme Court will allow live broadcast of the court proceedings of the petitions of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi against the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinibu.

President Tinubu’s special advisor on strategy and communications, Bayo Onanuga, made the announcement about this development. According to Mr. Onnanuga, Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, issued the directive.

“Breaking: The Supreme Court judgment on the appeals filed by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi will be broadcast live, according to an order by Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola,” a tweet by Mr Onanuga read.

News About Nigeria had earlier reported that this morning, the court will rule on the appeals brought by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), both of whom are contesting Tinubu’s election victory.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu was declared the victor of the February 25 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but Atiku and Obi are contesting that decision.

Both of them are challenging the ruling of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which had rejected their petitions and upheld Tinubu’s election victory, in independent appeals to the Supreme Court.

Following the adoption of the parties’ briefs of arguments, a seven-member panel of Supreme Court judges presided over by Justice Inyang Okoro, reserved judgment in the matter on October 23, 2023.

Atiku is requesting that Tinubu’s electoral victory be declared void at the highest court since he is accused of providing fraudulent academic credentials to INEC in order to run for president.
