India has expressed deep concern over the recent death sentences handed down by Qatar to eight of its citizens.

News About Nigeria gathered that the case is reported to involve high-ranking ex-naval officers accused of espionage.

The Indian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the matter, pledging to ‘take up the verdict with Qatari authorities’ and to provide ‘consular and legal assistance’ to the condemned individuals.

The Ministry’s statement also expressed shock over the death penalty verdict and noted that they are waiting for the detailed judgment from Qatar.

“We have initial information that the Court of First Instance of Qatar has today passed a judgement in the case involving eight Indian employees of Al Dahra company,” the statement added.

“We are deeply shocked by the verdict of the death penalty and are awaiting the detailed judgement.”

The case revolves around eight employees of Al Dahra company, a Gulf-based organisation that offers support services to sectors like aerospace, security, and defence.

The nature of the alleged crimes and further details about the eight individuals were not disclosed due to the confidential nature of the case.

However, multiple Indian media outlets have reported that among the condemned individuals are ex-naval officers, including former captains and commanders.

They were arrested in Doha in August 2022, reportedly on charges of espionage.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation or response from Qatari authorities regarding these reports.

India’s Foreign Ministry has stated that they are exploring all available legal options in this case.
