Former Bayelsa lawmaker and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ben Bruce, has pleaded with all Nigerians to accept the verdict of the Supreme Court.
Mr Bruce was speaking after the Supreme Court verdict that upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu.
The former Senator called on Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to put an end to controversies surrounding the presidential election by accepting the verdict of the apex court.
“The judgment should be accepted by all Nigerians as settling all the issues of contention and the matter of who won the presidential election held on February 25, 2023. Therefore, I call on the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Waziri Atiku Abubakar, to accept the judgment and let this controversy end,” a tweet by Mr Bruce read.
Mr Bruce, in the tweet, congratulated President Tinubu following his victory he charged the president to now focus on building the nation’s economy.
He tied the loss of the Peoples Democratic Party to the disunity at the polls, advising the party to learn from its loss at the 2023 general election.
News About Nigeria had earlier reported that the Supreme Court on Thursday struck out petitions brought by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi against the election of President Bola Tinubu.
Recall that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal had earlier struck out petitions filed by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi against the election of Bola Tinubu. However, the two main opposition candidates rejected the tribunal’s verdict and headed to the Supreme Court to appeal the verdict.
The Supreme Court, however, upheld the election of President Tinubu on Thursday.
