Popular Nigerian actor, John Okafor, widely known as Mr. Ibu, who has been grappling with an undisclosed illness, has successfully undergone two surgeries, News About Nigeria gathered.

The update on his health was shared by Jazmine Okafor, his adopted daughter, via Instagram on Tuesday.

In her Instagram post, Jazmine revealed that despite the surgeries, Mr Ibu continued to maintain his sense of humour, trying to crack jokes as if nothing had happened.

She expressed her amazement at his resilience, noting that even during his lowest moments, he could still find humour.

The young woman also shared her optimism, stating that her father looked much better than he did three weeks ago.

She affirmed her belief that Mr Ibu would recover, getting out of his sickbed stronger and alive.

“Never seen anyone so strong… even after two major surgeries, you were still trying to be funny like nothing happened, even in your lowest you still cracked jokes!” she wrote.

“I promise you, if there’s a God in heaven, you are getting out of this bed, stronger and alive. This is the strongest I have seen you in 3 weeks and I’m so excited! Fight this and get well soon, sweet papa,” she wrote.

Last week, Mr Ibu made a public appeal for financial assistance, saying that he does not want to lose his leg due to his ongoing health issues.

This plea led to widespread calls on social media for the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to support one of its own. The situation also triggered disagreements between the guild and Stella Maris, the actor’s wife.

Several individuals have announced their donations to help Mr Ibu with his medical expenses.

The Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Foundation claimed that it had covered the entire cost of Mr Ibu’s medical expenses the previous week, ensuring he could receive the necessary treatments.
