Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, warmly received Promise Nwosu, a Guinness World Record aspirant, at the State House following his successful attempt to break the record for the longest distance covered on foot from Lagos State to Port Harcourt.
News About Nigeria reported that Nwosu embarked on the 606-kilometre journey, commencing at Lekki toll gate, Lagos, on October 17 and completing it at the Rivers State Government House on October 21.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt and conveyed to the press by the governor’s media aide, Boniface Onyedi, Fubara urged the youth to steer clear of criminal activities.
He encouraged them to engage in constructive endeavours while sharing news about productive activities within their communities.
The governor emphasised that by doing so, the youth would intentionally promote the state as a desirable place that fosters harmonious coexistence among its residents.
Governor Fubara recognised Wosu’s unwavering determination to achieve the record for the longest distance covered on foot, applauding it as evidence of the resourcefulness of Rivers’ youth.
He stated, “It gives us so much joy this afternoon to hear that one of our youths has also set a record and it is commendable. We are celebrating you, our brother, Wosu, and every other person who is here, who is doing positive things to advance the state.”
The governor promised to honour Nwosu for his remarkable achievement, underlining the importance of everyone, especially the youth, viewing Rivers State as their own and actively contributing to activities that promote peace.
He stressed the need for a positive portrayal of the state to the rest of the world, urging them to share good news about the region.
He concluded, “It is upon us to engage in meaningful ventures. It is not always good to hear our news on the bad side. I’m appealing to you to always put those good news out. Don’t use your media platform to disparage the state. At the end of the day, it is your State too.”
