The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, starting from midnight of Saturday, October 21, to midnight of Sunday, October 22, 2023, to carry out repairs, News About Nigeria reports.
This information was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works in the state, Olukorede Kesha, in a statement on Thursday, where she explained that the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge is intended to enable the government to begin comprehensive rehabilitation works on the bridge, starting with repairs of the critical portions.
She further explained that the complete shutdown of the bridge happening this Saturday and Sunday is in line with the Federal Government’s plans to carry out a comprehensive repair of the Third Mainland Bridge.
“However, in order to alleviate the pains currently being experienced on the bridge, the ministry will be carrying out palliative works on the most critically failed sections along the Adeniji-bound carriageway on Sunday, October 22, in preparation for the comprehensive repair works,” she explained.
Kesha, therefore, advised motorists to cooperate with the traffic management officials by obeying and observing all diversions as directed for seamless movement. She further called on motorists to use alternative routes during the period when work will be done on the bridge.
According to her, this will enable the Federal Government to carry out its task on the bridge promptly and swiftly without interference from motorists.
“However, motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible during the period of the palliative works, as the Adeniji-bound part of the bridge will be closed to traffic from Saturday, October 21, to Sunday, October 22, at 12:00 midnight,” she stated.
