Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) All Stars winner, Ilebaye Odiniya, popularly known as Baye, has revealed the reason behind her communications with cowrie shells during her time on the reality TV show, News About Nigeria reports.
She explained that she communicates with these cowries as a tribute to her late brother.
The Kogi-born model disclosed this during an interview on Pulse’s ‘One On One’ show hosted by another reality star, Christy O.
Christy O inquired, “There is a claim online where Cee-C was saying that you had cowries that you were talking to. Can you tell me more about it?”
In response, Baye stated, “I had something precious to me. Because obviously, you are supposed to have something precious when you’re doing something that you miss at home.
“And the cowries were for my late brother. It has been with me, and even the baton. I have a baton on him too. I didn’t know where to keep it. I was just like, ‘Oh! Let me hold something strong. It just helps me feel like he [my late brother] is around. He is still with me’.”
On October 1, 2023, Baye clinched the Big Brother Naija All Stars title, along with a prize of N120 million and a brand-new car.
Speaking with Saturday Beats shortly after being presented with her prize, she said she didn’t rely on any strategy to win the show. Instead, she relied on prayers.
“I did not use any strategy (to win the game). The only strategy I used was to pray to God. I never imagined that I would win the competition.
“During my first participation on the show (in 2022), I spent only three weeks. When I realised that they were bringing stars (for this season), I thought I would last for a maximum of three weeks. I did not know I would be the winner,” she said.
