The Jigawa State Police Command has reported the arrest of 298 individuals suspected of various criminal activities during the third quarter of 2023, News About Nigeria gathered.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu, the arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to combat criminality in the state.
The police operation also resulted in the recovery of 64 rustled animals, and firearms, and the rescue of six kidnapped victims.
The suspects were apprehended for a range of alleged crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, vandalism, animal rustling, and fraud.
The breakdown of the suspects includes 25 involved in robbery, 12 in kidnappings, 36 in murder cases, 25 in rape cases, 37 in thefts, 15 in vandalism, 17 in animal rustling, and five for alleged fraud. Additionally, 126 others were arrested for their affiliation with criminal gangs.
As part of their operations, the police recovered various weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a Beretta pistol, three locally-made guns, and 48 live rounds of ammunition.
Furthermore, the operation led to the seizure of 20 motor vehicles/motorcycles, 560 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, and multiple narcotic substances.
DSP Lawan Shiisu emphasised that the crime prevention strategies adopted by the Jigawa Police Command have resulted in a generally peaceful environment in the state, allowing residents to go about their daily activities without fear of molestation.
He acknowledged the support of the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbeyokun, the Jigawa government, and other security agencies for their cooperation.
