The sacked senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has apologized to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for accusing him of being behind his removal by the Court of Appeal.

The embattled senator tendered his apology during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday.

According to him, the press release he issued earlier on the matter was not accurate, as it was based on the information available to him at that time.

“I have to say with all humility and responsibility that the press release we issued yesterday was premature and based on the information available to us at the time. As of today, we have discovered a lot of things.”

He further explained that he had contacted the Senate President the day before, and after their discussion, he is now convinced that Akpabio was not involved in his removal by the Court of Appeal.

Abbo quoted Akpabio as saying, “I swear by my mother’s grave that I’m not involved; I don’t even know that you’re in court,” during their conversation.

He added that since the Senate President had sworn on his mother’s grave, a woman he loves deeply and who raised him after he lost his father at the age of six, he did not see any reason why he would lie.

News About Nigeria had previously reported that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja nullified Abbo’s election on Monday, October 16, declaring the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Amos Yohanna, as the winner of the February 25 senatorial election.

Abbo had blamed his removal on the Senate President, alleging that Akpabio was responsible for the unfavourable court judgment because he didn’t support him when he was contesting to become the President of the red chamber.
