The Lagos State government has vowed to clear the backlog of pensions in December 2023, News About Nigeria reports.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, to newsmen on Monday.
According to him, the state government is committed to ensuring that pensioners get paid before the end of the year (2023).
The commissioner also restated the state government’s commitment to continuous upscaling and upskilling of the civil service in order to meet the aspirations of the 21st-century public service.
He also noted that the Lagos State government has been consistent in the payment of pensions to its retirees and is reputed to be the best pension administration-compliant state in the federation.
According to him, the Governor Sanwo-Olu-led administration is also committed to ensuring that they continue the good work of paying pensioners in the state as and when due.
Afolabi, therefore, explained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has shown greater commitment and determination toward clearing “the backlog of pensions, and it is anticipated that this would be cleared by the end of 2023, and those retiring from 2024 will collect their entitlement without waiting for a day.”
The commissioner also stressed the government’s commitment to the growth of public servants in the state through continued investment in capacity building for the state’s workforce.
He also revealed that, in the coming months, the government would be deliberate in increasing the rate of learning and development interventions in the shortest possible time frame for civil servants in the state.
