Nigerian music sensation, Davido, has recently opened up about his relationship with artistes on his DMW record label, News About Nigeria gathered.
The artist, who served as a panellist at the UnitedMasters SelectCon 005 event in New York, revealed that he had never taken any money from his signed artists.
According to the ‘Unavailable’ singer, he views his artistes as his family and he considers the record label as more than just a business venture.
He explained that he provided financial support for his artistes, covering expenses like video production, accommodation, and general welfare.
His primary aim, he mentioned, was to offer his artistes opportunities and resources for their growth and success.
David also acknowledged the global expansion of Afrobeats and the evolving dynamics of the music industry.
He emphasised the importance of artistes comprehending the business aspect of music, noting that spending money could be an essential part of making money.
“My label was really more like a family to me. I was young. To me, I was just happy putting my boy on. I ran a label for four years and I didn’t take one dime from my artistes.
“Afrobeats got to a place where its global and I have to explain to the artistes “in these days this is business, to make money you gotta spend money’,” he said.

In the same interview, Davido shared a deeply personal and touching story about his journey into fatherhood.
He revealed that he and his wife, Chioma Rowland Adeleke, were taken aback when they discovered they were expecting twins.
This revelation occurred at a significant moment in their lives, as their twins were born in the same month their son, Ifeanyi, passed away the previous year.
“When me and my wife found out that we were having twins, we were shaking. Then it was in the same month. My son died last year in October and my wife gave birth this year October so it is crazy.”
