In celebration of the 2023 World Teachers Day in Ekiti State, outstanding teachers were honoured with N33 million in cash awards by the state government.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji expressed his admiration for teachers in the state, acknowledging their sacrifice and dedication to duty.
He also reiterated his commitment to creating a conducive atmosphere in schools.
Governor Oyebanji highlighted the global issue of teacher shortages and announced his administration’s efforts to address this challenge by hiring 2,000 teachers.
News About Nigeria gathered that the recruitment drive includes 1,500 teachers for primary schools and 500 for secondary schools.
He stated, “We have 17,000 personnel and others in private schools. The state government is committed to recruiting more teachers in the state.”
Among the award beneficiaries were Mrs Adenike Osanranmaye and Mrs Tolulope Owoseni, recognised as the Best Teacher in the Primary School category and Secondary School category, respectively.
Each of them received a substantial sum of N5 million.
Mr. Olajide Idowu Adetokunbo, who courageously escaped from kidnappers and returned to rescue other victims, was honoured with the prestigious Teachers Hero’s Award and received a cash prize of N1 million.
Several individuals were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to education.
Additionally, two teachers received the Best Administrators’ Award, each receiving N2 million in cash prizes.
Other teachers across various local government areas in the state, both in primary and secondary schools, were also presented with cash awards ranging from N1.5 million, N500,000, and N100,000.
The celebration also extended to the best teachers in private schools in both primary and secondary categories, who were also recognised with cash awards.
The event served as a platform to appreciate and motivate teachers for their invaluable contributions to the development of education in Ekiti State.
