A ministerial nominee, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, on Wednesday, collapsed during his screening at the Senate, News About Nigeria reports.

Balarabe, nominated to replace Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State governor who was rejected by the Senate, was speaking for several minutes during his screening before suddenly losing consciousness and collapsing to the floor with several lawmakers rushing to his aid.

Lawal was the second nominee to undergo screening and had completed his presentation to the lawmakers and was preparing to field questions when the incident occurred.

While efforts were made to revive him, the Senate went into a closed-door session.

Balarabe was nominated alongside Dr Jamila Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, who were earlier nominated by the President as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively.

He is a former Secretary to the Kaduna State government who led the 65-man transition committee of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
