Covenant University, the University of Ibadan (UI), and the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have secured top positions in Nigeria according to the latest Times Higher Education’s 2024 university ranking, News About Nigeria gathered.
The analysis of the recent rankings revealed that Covenant University has achieved a place among the top 1,000 universities globally.
While Covenant University holds the top spot in Nigeria, it is placed within the global 801-1000 range.
Covenant University, a privately-owned institution, leads the ranking in Nigeria, with the University of Ibadan coming in second, and FUTA securing the third position.
The University of Lagos and the University of Bayero emerged as the fourth and fifth top universities in Nigeria, respectively.
The Ranking Web reported that the World University ranking comprises 1,904 universities from 108 countries and regions. This comprehensive ranking uses the new WUR 3.0 methodology, which evaluates an institution’s performance across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry connections, and international outlook.
Other Nigerian universities that achieved top rankings in the Times Higher Education 2024 ranking include the University of Ilorin, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, the University of Benin, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Port Harcourt.
Among the top 15 universities in Nigeria, nine are located in the South West, two in the South East, two in the South-South, one in the North West, and one in the North Central region, showcasing the diverse distribution of high-ranking institutions across the country.
