The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has condemned the recent killing of men of the Nigerian army by some yet-to-be-identified individuals in Imo state.
Condemning the act in a tweet on Wednesday, Mr Obi urged security agencies to diligently fish out the killers of the soldiers.
“While we pray to God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss, I urge the security agencies to diligently fish out the perpetrators of this crime to face the law. As the country continues to battle heightened insecurity,” tweet by Mr Obi partly read.
The former Anambra governor warned that such a level of callousness from criminal elements must not be tolerated in the society and nation.
Also condoling with the Nigerian army for following the loss of its officials in the tragic incident, Mr Obi urged the general public to exercise more caution and be more security-conscious. He also encouraged the government to revise and step up the security strategies to ensure better security of lives and properties.
News About Nigeria recalls that On Tuesday, gunmen wreaked havoc in the Umualumaku community of Imo State’s Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, killing approximately eight security personnel, including soldiers, police officers, and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
There was panic among the locals as a result of the incident, which occurred at around 9.30 a.m. It was gathered that the attackers killed and set ablaze members of the Joint Task Force who were in two Hilux vans while they were in the patrol cars.
