Street pop artiste Naira Marley, whose real name is Azeez Fashola, has experienced a significant loss of followers on Instagram in the wake of the mysterious death of his former signee, Promise ‘Mohbad’ Aloba.

News About Nigeria gathered that prior to Mohbad’s passing on September 12, Naira Marley had a substantial following of 7.5 million on Instagram.

However, following the release of videos documenting the harassment and maltreatment that Mohbad reportedly endured, his followers began to dwindle.

As of the latest count on Wednesday afternoon, more than 600,000 people had unfollowed the ‘Japa’ singer, reducing his followers to 6.5 million.

This mass unfollowing is believed to be a coordinated action by outraged netizens.

While there is no direct evidence linking Naira Marley to Mohbad’s death, viral videos depicting the alleged mistreatment of the deceased have fueled anger among music fans.

Many are now calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise.

The official police investigation into Mohbad’s death was launched on Monday, with the deceased’s father, family members, and witnesses meeting with the Lagos state commissioner of police to commence the inquiry.

In response to the overwhelming support and solidarity from fans and communities worldwide, the management of Mohbad announced plans for a candlelight procession and tribute night in honour of the departed artiste.

The tribute event aims to celebrate Mohbad’s life and contributions to the music industry, providing fans with an opportunity to pay their respects.

The candlelight procession will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, by 5 pm at Lekki Phase 1 Gate while the Tribute Concert starts 8pm at Muri Okunola Park, Lagos State.
