Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani suggests that it is too early to start plotting the impeachment of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Mr. Sani made this statement in response to speculations about purported intentions to impeach the Senate president.
While he acknowledged that individuals opposed to Akpabio would typically wait for the Senate leader to make mistakes, he claimed that the Senate leader had done nothing to justify his impeachment.
“It’s normal for the aggrieved forces in the National Assembly to stalk Akpabio and wait for the best time to strike, but it’s too early to even think of impeaching him and there is nothing wrong he has done to warrant impeachment. But he should always watch his back,” Mr Sani wrote.
News About Nigeria recalls that Mr Akpabio, the Senate’s president, denied the rumoured plot to have him removed from office, claiming that the Senate is stable, peaceful, and working to make Nigeria a better and bigger country under his leadership.
The rumour that steps would soon be taken to remove Akpabio from office was likewise dismissed by the Senate as a deception.
Elisha Abbo, a senator from Adamawa North Senatorial District, however, claimed that Akpabio-supporting senators were responsible for the news about the purported plot to have him removed.
However, the Senate President responded to rumours of a plot to topple the Senate and its leadership by saying in a statement released over the weekend by his special adviser on media and publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, that the rumours were pure fiction and laced with malice to achieve goals that senators had not yet fully understood.
