The Enugu State Police Command has neutralized three members of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN).

In a recent operation carried out in Ezioha Mgbowo, Awgu Local Government Area, the security operatives seized three pump-action guns, 10 machetes, and other weapons.

This development followed intelligence gathered by the security personnel and was carried out by a joint force effort including the Enugu State Police Command, NPF Special Forces, and troops from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu.

According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, the IPOB/ESN members were planning to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order in the state.

News About Nigeria gathered that when the joint security team confronted them at around 2:15 a.m., the criminals opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

During the exchange, three of the criminals were neutralized, while others managed to escape with gunshot wounds “Three of the hoodlums, who opened fire on the joint team upon sighting them, were neutralized, while several others escaped with severe degrees of gunshot wounds in the ensuing gunfight,” Ndukwe revealed.

The state’s Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu commended the joint team for their efforts and assured the citizens of Enugu of their security and safety.

He urged residents to carry on with their lawful activities and reiterated the commitment of the police and other security forces to combat violent criminals operating under any disguise.

The commissioner also encouraged the public to report individuals seen with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.

“The good people of Enugu State should remain law-abiding and continue to provide the police with actionable security information and intelligence,” he said.
