Nigerian actress, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, has revealed that she ‘friend-zoned’ her now-husband, Banky W for a year and a half before finally accepting his marriage proposal.
During a service at Waterbrooks Church in Lagos, Adesua explained that friendship played a significant role in building the foundation of their relationship.
She said she had three reasons for initially hesitating to accept Banky W’s proposal.
First, Adesua admitted that she wasn’t entirely sure if she had received confirmation from God about whether Banky W was the right person for her.
Second, she mentioned the idea of marrying Banky W, given her already chaotic life, and lastly, she wanted to develop a strong friendship before taking their relationship to the next level.
News About Nigeria reports that Adesua highlighted the importance of the friendship they nurtured over a year and a half, emphasising that it has played a crucial role in the strength of their relationship today.
“I friend-zoned him for two reasons. One, I wasn’t sure that I had heard from God about whether this person was actually my person.
“Actually, three reasons. Second, marrying Banky W [laughs]. I was like, ‘My life on my own is chaotic enough, I would now marry Banky? No, no, no.’
“And then thirdly, just trying to at least have a friendship. And I honestly believe that the friendship we laid over a year and a half ago has played a very big role in how our relationship is today.
“Banky W is my guy. I mean if you take away romance and sex and everything that makes a marriage, he would still be my guy. Banky is my best friend,” she shared.
