Nigerian street singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has released an official statement on the death of music sensation, Ileriooluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, News About Nigeria reports.

Mohbad, who passed away on Tuesday, was formerly one of Naira Marley’s signees under Marlian Records.

Despite a controversial exit from Marlian Records in 2022, Mohbad still had unresolved issues with some of Naira Marley’s loyalists after his departure.

When the news of Mohbad’s death broke, social media was filled with speculations, and many pointed accusing fingers at Naira Marley and his associates.

At the deceased’s burial, some individuals even threatened to attack Naira Marley upon sighting him.

In response to the allegations, Naira Marley has publicly denied any involvement in Mohbad’s death. He issued a statement on Friday night expressing his sadness over Mohbad’s passing and emphasizing that he had no ill intentions toward the late artiste.

Naira Marley also mentioned that he believed Mohbad deserved a more fitting burial and expressed his intention to continue reaching out to Mohbad’s family.

Some social media users had criticised the location of Mohbad’s burial in a deserted area of Ikorodu, Lagos, and blamed the artiste’s family for the choice.

In his statement, Naira Marley praised Mohbad’s talent and acknowledged his contributions to the foundation of Marlian Music.

He called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death and expressed dissatisfaction with the events that had transpired since the singer’s passing.

The statement read, “Mohbad is an incredible street pop star who contributed to the foundation of Marlian Music. Despite his departure last year, we continually championed his talent. No family is perfect, families have disagreements, but no harm whatsoever was wished on MohBad.”

Naira Marley also lamented that they couldn’t provide a more dignified send-off for Mohbad but pledged to continue their efforts to support Mohbad’s family during this challenging time.
