Opta’s supercomputer has predicted the top four English Premier League clubs that will secure the Champions League slot for next season.
According to the predictions, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham are the frontrunners to clinch these coveted positions, News About Nigeria reports.
The equation for Champions League qualification has slightly changed for the 2023/24 campaign. While the top four spots traditionally guaranteed Champions League football, the upcoming season introduces the possibility that fifth place may also secure a spot, however, that will be tied to English clubs’ performances in European competitions this season.
The supercomputer reveals that Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal have exceptionally high chances, over 80 per cent, of finishing in the top four. City boasts an impressive 99.93 per cent probability.
In contrast, Manchester United and Chelsea have seen their top-four chances plummet. Manchester United’s probability has dropped from 63.2 per cent before the start of the season, to 28.4 per cent, reflecting a challenging start to the new season.
The supercomputer also identifies other Premier League teams like Brighton, Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Brentford with varying odds of securing a top-four finish, ranging from seven to 20 per cent.
Shamefully, Chelsea, despite being a prominent club in English football, finds itself outside the top 10 contenders for a top-four spot. Mauricio Pochettino’s team has seen its chances decline dramatically to just 1.3 per cent following recent defeats.
Additionally, the supercomputer predicts potential relegation candidates, with Luton, Sheffield United, and Everton considered the most likely to face relegation from the Premier League.
